How to Notice a Piece of Peace

Peace rarely announces itself. This lesson trains the eye to catch it mid-day, mid-errand, mid-sentence.

  1. 1Once a day, name one moment that felt even slightly steady.
  2. 2Write it down in a sentence — small is fine, small is the point.
  3. 3At week's end, read your seven sentences aloud. That is your first handful of keeps.

Keeping Peace in Daily Rhythms

Peace kept on purpose survives better than peace kept by accident. Build it into the hinges of the day.

  1. 1Choose one daily hinge: waking, a meal, or the commute.
  2. 2Attach one small peace practice to it — a breath, a verse, a silence.
  3. 3Keep it for two weeks before adding another. One hinge at a time.

The Practice of Returning

A two-minute practice for coming back to yourself when the day has scattered you.

  1. 1Stop wherever you are. Feel your feet.
  2. 2Take three slow breaths, longer out than in.
  3. 3Ask: what is the next peaceful thing I can do? Do only that.

Passing a Keep Along

A keep given away is kept twice. How to share a piece of peace without preaching it.

  1. 1Offer, don't insist: 'this helped me' beats 'you should'.
  2. 2Share the keep, then stop talking. Let it do its own work.
  3. 3Ask later what they noticed. Listen all the way through the answer.

Gathering Keepsakes for Hard Days

Build a small reserve of keeps — songs, lines, images — before you need them, so they are there when you do.

  1. 1Save three keeps that steady you: one song, one line, one practice.
  2. 2Keep them somewhere you can reach in under a minute.
  3. 3On a hard day, use one before you decide anything else.
